Unlike many museums dedicated to regional wines, the Cité du Vin takes a global approach. Instead of focusing solely on Bordeaux’s famous vineyards, it explores how wine has shaped cultures, civilisations and traditions across the world for thousands of years.
The permanent exhibition spans several floors and features more than twenty themed areas filled with interactive displays, films, digital installations and sensory experiences. Visitors can discover the history of winemaking, learn about grape-growing regions across every continent, explore the science behind wine production and understand how wine has influenced art, literature, religion and trade throughout history.
